Legislative Panel to Hear About Child Custody Concerns

A legislative panel is set to hear from the public about legal disputes involving child custody cases in Connecticut.

The task force has scheduled a hearing on Thursday morning at the Legislative Office Building.

Members are seeking testimony about the role of a guardian ad litem and attorneys for minors in any action involving parenting responsibilities and the custody and care of a child. They're also seeking testimony about whether the state should adopt a presumption that shared custody is in the best interest of the minor child.

The Coalition for Family Court Reform, which is critical of the state's family court system, has urged its supporters to attend the meeting and speak out about their personal experiences with judges, lawyers and mental health professionals involved with their divorce cases.
