Two People Hit by Car in Simsbury

Two people were hit by a car while crossing the street in Simsbury Wednesday evening.

The crash happened in from of the town office buildings in the area of 930 Hopmeadow St.

Police said the victims were in the crosswalk just before 6:20 p.m. when they were hit. The male victim was airlifted to Hartford Hospital and a female victim was taken by St. Francis by ambulance. Police said the male's victims were more severe.

Police have identified the victims as 27-year-old Nicholas Volpe and 28-year-old Svenja Volpe, both of Simsbury.

Both were conscious and alert when emergency crews arrived.

The driver is cooperating with the investigation. Investigators said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

No other details were immediately available.
