Litchfield High School Principal Reinstated After Drunk Driving Arrest

The Litchfield High School principal arrested on drunken driving charges Jan. 5 has been reinstated following a 10-day suspension, according to school superintendent Deborah S. Wheeler.

Kristen Della Volpe, 44, is charged with illegally operating a motor vehicle under the influence, court records show. She was suspended indefinitely following the incident, but the suspension was retroactively changed to 10 days, Wheeler said at a Board of Education meeting this week.

Wheeler said Della Volpe understands the seriousness of the incident and will participate in counseling and alcohol education classes for first-time drunk driving offenders.

Della Volpe has met with middle school and high school students to address her actions and consequences. She’ll continue to discuss the situation and will “work to make amends” with members of the academic community, Wheeler said Tuesday.

Della Volpe’s bond was set at $1,000 and she was released from custody. She’s due back in court Feb. 19.
