Local Newspaper Cuts Jobs

First - an announcement from the Journal Register Co. that it plans to cancel up to 13 of the newspapers it owns in Connecticut if it can't find a buyer.

Now - reports that 20 jobs will be eliminated from The New Haven Register, one of the company's papers that wasn't on the chopping block.

The job cuts include five in the newsroom, which make up about 7 percent of the newsroom staff.

The Journal Register has been in trouble all year, facing lower revenues and massive debt.  The company said on Monday that two daily newspapers, The Herald of New Britain and The Bristol Press, could print their last issues by the end of the year.
