Looters Ransack Home After Fatal Fire

Two days after Kyle Jean-Baptiste died, his family returns to find looting.

The family of a 7-year-old boy killed in a house fire in Bridgeport on Monday was already in mourning, and now they are dealing with looting.

Sabrina Jean-Baptiste, the aunt of the child who died, told the Connecticut Post that the family returned to two days after the fire to find that televisions, computers, cash, clothing, shoes, radios, cameras and more had been stolen.

One of the cameras contained photos of Kyle Jean-Baptiste, the New Beginnings Family Academy second-grader who was trapped in his third-floor bedroom as it was engulfed in flames.

Family members and firefighters were unable to reach him and he died of smoke inhalation.

"This is a lot to deal with, on top of the expense of the funeral for Kyle and repairing the home," Sabrina Jean-Baptiste told the Post in an email. "They even stole at least one camera that had photos of Kyle."
