Husband Held on $1 Million in Wife's Death

A Norwich man accused of shooting and killing his new wife is being held on $1 million after he did not make bond.

Paige Chyung, 46, was shot and killed Tuesday night, according to Norwich police.

Police receiving several 911 calls reporting a gunshot at the Norwich Avenue home and responded about 11 p.m. Tuesday. They found Chyung inside the home. She was dead, police said.

Police arrested her husband of two months, Chihan Eric Chyung, and continued to investigate into Wednesday morning.

Chihan Eric Chyung, 46, was charged with first-degree manslaughter with a firearm and was arraigned Wednesday, the court files were sealed and Chihan Chyung's case was transferred to New London Superior Court for a hearing June 23. He has not entered a plea.

The Norwich Bulletin reports Chihan Chyung is a self-employed carpenter, and his wife was a nurse's aide at Backus Hospital in Norwich.

Bryon Vary, who lives next door, told the Day of New London that police knocked on his door Tuesday night and said his neighbor had shot and killed his wife.

“I haven't slept since that knock on my door,” Vary told the newspaper. “They seemed like a quiet couple except for the occasional arguments.”

State police detectives are helping Norwich police with the investigation.
