Man Accused of Crashing Into Middlesex Hospital Has Died: Officials

The man accused of crashing into the entrance of the emergency department of Middlesex Hospital in Middletown on Feb. 22 and setting himself on fire has died, according to officials from Bridgeport Hospital.

Hospital officials said 27-year-old Steven Ellam, of Middletown, died last night.

Officials said he crashed into the emergency department just before 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22 and set himself on fire as he documented the ordeal on Facebook Live.

In that video, Ellam called himself Jesus Christ and referred to the Illuminati and President Trump. Facebook has taken the video down.

Police said the Middletown Police Department and the FBI are still investigating and several other outside federal, state and local agencies are assisting in various parts of this investigation.

“The evidence in this investigation, thus far, has revealed that Ellam’s actions were intended to cause harm to others, yet we believe this incident was isolated and Ellam worked alone, as the sole source, in the outcome of the event. At this time, there are no indications of any further threats of violence to the hospital or the Middletown community,” the statement from police says.
