Waterbury police are investigating after a man and a woman were found dead in a condominium Thursday.
Police said both victims, who were found in a bedroom, had apparent gunshot wounds and that a handgun was found at the scene.
They have been identified as 48-year-old LaRhonda Jones and 54-year-old Eric Jones. They were married and both lived in the home.
Eric Jones was a former New Haven police officer, according to the department. He retired in 2012 after serving 20 years.
Investigators said officers responded to the home at 488 Perkins Avenue around 11:40 a.m. when LaRhonda did not show up for work. When the property manager let police into the unit, officers found the victims lying on a bed in the bedroom, “obviously deceased.”
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has performed autopsies. The cause and manner of death for both victims are pending further investigation.
