Police End Stratford Standoff

Police have taken a man into custody after a standoff in Stratford.

Officers swarmed Roosevelt Avenue Thursday afternoon after a man identified as Robert Rylander barricaded himself inside a home there. The incident started as a domestic dispute, according to police on the scene.

Police arrived on scene after a woman claimed she was assaulted by Rylander her former boyfriend. The woman alleges she was grabbed by Rylander and pushed into the wall before being able to escape the residence police said.

The unidentified woman also told police that Rylander had a firearm inside of the house and he was threatening to harm officers and other bystanders.

After several attempts were made by crisis negotiators to contact Rylander by phone, officers went into the home and found him in the bedroom. He was taken into custody without incident according to police.

Officers also found a B-B rifle in a nearby closet.

Witnesses in the area told NBC Connecticut via Facebook that they were told to stay inside their homes during the standoff.

Rylander is currently being held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
