Man Broke Into Westport Weston YMCA Lockers: PD

A man from Torrington is under arrest after police say he broke into multiple lockers at a YMCA in Westport.

Officers say they first received a report of a theft from the Westport Weston YMCA on January 29. The victim told police that while placing his personal belongings into one of the gym lockers, he observed a suspicious man in the locker room who appeared to be watching him and trying to see his lock combination. When the victim later returned to his locker, he says he found the contents disturbed and $80 had been stolen from his wallet.

According to police, two similar incidents were reported on January 30 and January 31. On January 30, a victim's locker was entered and rifled through but nothing was taken. On January 31, another locker was entered and a watch was stolen.

Officers reviewed surveillance video on all three days during the timeframe of each incident. An officer recognized the suspect as 23-year-old Brandon Fitzgerald from a previous incident. During the investigation of the previous incident, police say Fitzgerald was advised he was not to return to the YMCA.

Police say Fitzgerald turned himself into police on Saturday. He is facing multiple criminal tresspass charges, as well as burglary and larceny charges. Fitzgerald was released after posting a total of $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court on June 25.
