Man Charged in Hartford's First Homicide of 2019

Hartford police have arrested a man in the city’s first homicide of 2019.

Police said 45-year-old John Bolton has been charged with murder in the death of 29-year-old Carl Spence. Spence was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the basement of a building on Laurel Street on January 8. He died at the hospital, police said.

Bolton was also charged with criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm. He was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Monday and is currently being held on a $1 million bond.

He is due in court on Tuesday.
