Man Charged in Wallingford Bar Stabbing

A man was stabbed in the back several times during a fight inside a Wallingford bar early Tuesday morning.

The call to Wallingford police, reporting a stabbing at Peeps Café, at 511 North Colony Road, came just before 1 a.m. Inside, police found a 36-year-old customer who had been stabbed in the back more than once, police said.

Gary Williams, 22 of Wallingford, was at the bar and admitted to the stabbing, police said. The two men did not know each other and the stabbing happened after and altercation, police said.

Williams left the café after the initial altercation, returned shortly afterwards and stabbed the victim with a 3-inch spring-loaded switchblade knife, police said. They found the knife at the scene.

The Wallingford Fire Department treated the victim at the scene and transported him to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Williams was charged first-degree assault and carrying a dangerous weapon. He is being held on a $100,000 bond and is due to be arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Tuesday.

Police are investigated.
