Man Charged With Arson in Torrington Apartment Fire

A man is accused of setting a fire at a Torrington apartment building that forced dozens of people from their homes at the Woodland Hills Apartment Complex in March.

Torrington Police arrested 20-year-old Jacob Butler on an active warrant Tuesday.

Police said Butler, who lives at the complex Highland Avenue, admitted to lighting the siding of his neighbor’s apartment on fire while standing outside on his porch. The fire spread quickly and caused damage to multiple units.

Thirty people were displaced, fire officials said at the time. No one was hurt.

Butler was charged with arson, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. He was held on a $75,000 bond and is due in court on Wednesday.
