Police: Man Claiming to Be Off-Duty Cop to Get Girl in Car Arrested

A man accused of claiming to be an off-duty officer and trying to lure a teenage girl into his car in Naugatuck on Monday night has been arrested.

Raimundo Donascimento, 35, has been charged with breach of peace, impersonating an officer and reckless endangerment.

He was arrested after a 16-year-old girl told police she was riding her bike alone on High Street near Calvin Street around 8 p.m. on Monday when a man in a vehicle approached her and asked her several times if she wanted a ride, Naugatuck police said.

The teen said several times that she did not want to.

The victim said the man said he was an off-duty police officer but didn't have his badge on him, police said.

When the man did not leave her alone, the teen screamed for him to get away from here and the screams caught the attention of a passerby who stopped to check up on the victim.

The teen was able to get the license plate of the van and has good description of the driver, which police said helped them find him.

Donascimento was arrested Wednesday and his bond was set at $100,000.
