Man Critically Injured When Moped Collides with Car in New Haven

New Haven police are investigating a serious crash involving a moped and an Uber driver at Willow and Orange Streets Sunday.

Police said the crash happened around noon. The moped operator, a 48-year-old man from North Haven, suffered traumatic injuries and remains in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said.

The driver of the car, a 44-year-old woman from Hamden, was not hurt. Police said the driver worked for Uber. A passenger in the car was also uninjured.

Police said the Uber driver remained at the scene and has been cooperating with police. She told police she was stopped at a red light heading west on Willow Street. She reported that when the light turned green, she drove into the intersection and hit the moped, which was traveling north on Orange Street.

Police are investigating the crash and fault has not been determined at this time.
