Man Dies in Tree Cutting Accident

A 53-year-old Naugatuck man has died after falling more than 40 feet while cutting a tree while cleaning up job after Superstorm Sandy.

Michael Pranulis was up in a pine tree in Middlebury around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday when he became entangled as it fell, according to police.

He fell 40 feet and suffered head trauma and multiple broken bones. He was pronounced dead at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, according to police.

Police said Pranulis was working for K Landscaping when the accident happened.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been called in to investigate.
