Man Faces DUI Charges in Putnam Crash That Seriously Injured Passenger

A Putnam man faces DUI and reckless driving charges after a crash in Putnam that seriously injured one of his passengers, according to Putnam police.

Police allege that 20-year-old Jacob Privee was driving under the influence when he crashed a 2004 Ford Mustang on Underwood Road in Putnam Saturday night.

A 20-year-old passenger in the vehicle was taken to Day Kimball Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to UMASS Memorial Hospital. A 16-year-old passenger also suffered minor injuries.

Investigators said that the Mustang was traveling east on Underwood Drive when Privee lost control and hit several trees on the right shoulder. The car then went back onto the road, swerved over into the westbound lane and came to a stop.

Privee was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, reckless driving, failure to drive right, possession of alcohol by a minor, and tampering with evidence. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is due in Danielson Superior Court on Feb. 14.
