Man Gets 2 Years in Prison for Killing Family's 5 Cats

Police said the cats belonged to a Windsor Locks family.

A Windsor Locks man has been sentenced to two years in prison for killing five cats belonging to his fiancee's family -- crimes that drew protests outside of court by animal rights advocates.

Timothy Olschafskie, 21, pleaded guilty on Friday in Enfield Superior Court to multiple counts of maliciously killing animals. He was charged in the deaths of seven cats and admitted to five of the killings.

Police said the cats suffered blunt force trauma, bone fractures, lacerations to internal organs and skin torn from their bodies on different dates in 2013.

Authorities said the killings happened when Olschafskie was staying at the Windsor Locks home of his fiancee's family, which took in the cats from an animal rescue program.

A prosecutor and Olschafskie's lawyer didn't return messages the Associated Press left on Monday.
