Man Shot in the Back While Sitting in Parked Vehicle in New Haven: Police

A man is hospitalized in stable condition after getting shot in the back in New Haven early Saturday morning.

Officers were called to Edgewood Avenue near Hotchkiss Street around 2:12 a.m. after getting a ShotSpotter alert of gunfire.

A short time later, a gunshot victim arrived at Yale-New Haven Hospital by a private vehicle, police said.

The victim, later identified as a 26-year-old New Haven man, suffered a gunshot wound to his lower back, according to authorities. He is hospitalized in stable condition.

Police said the vehicle that was used to transport the man to the hospital had also been hit by gunfire. Investigators believe the man was shot as he sat in his parked vehicle on Edgewood Avenue.

Officers held two crimes scenes overnight. Both have been cleared and the roads have reopened.
