A man has died after a shooting in New Haven over the weekend.

Police were called to Hazel Street shortly before 4 p.m. on Sunday after getting a ShotSpotter alert and 911 calls reporting gunfire. Police said Monday that officers working in the area also heard two gunshots.

When officers arrived, they said they found a 30-year-old New Haven man who had been struck by gunfire.

The man was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he later died of his injuries, according to police. Police said Monday the victim has been identified as Melvin Stanley.

Police said the vehicle he was in was secured and a crime scene was established.

Police continue to investigate and said they do not believe this was a random shooting. Stanley had been the victim of a prior shooting. Police said he had been shot in Hamden in 2015.
