A 46-year-old Jewett City man died after being struck by a train on Wednesday afternoon in Lisbon.
State police received a 911 call around 12:15 p.m. reporting that a pedestrian had been hit by a train near Bundy Hill Road and emergency crews found Douglas Fowler, 46, suffering from serious injuries.
He was taken to Backus Hospital in Norwich, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Witnesses told police that Fowler was kneeling on the tracks when the Providence & Worcester Engine approached.
The engineer blew the train's whistle, but Fowler didn't move, according to police.
There appeared to be no criminal aspect to the incident, police said.
