Police are searching for the woman who hit a man in Bridgeport on Tuesday night and fled the scene, according to city officials.
Felix Rivera, 52, of Bridgeport, was crossing North Avenue at 9:07 p.m. on Tuesday when a woman driving a dark red Chevrolet SUV hit him, according to police.
Witnesses followed the driver as she sped off and went down Housatonic Avenue, running through traffic signals along the way, but she got away, police said.
Rivera had a skull fracture, significant brain trauma and a fractured pelvis and was transported to St Vincent’s Hospital, then to Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was listed in critical condition.
Police said the front grill of the SUV was left in the road and the Bridgeport Police Serious Crash Investigation Team is investigating.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call Bridgeport Police at 203-576-TIPS (8477).
Editor's note: Bridgeport officials said Rivera passed away on Wednesday morning, but said they made a mistake.
