West Haven police have arrested a man accused of carrying a fake assault rifle near West Haven High School on Monday and prompting a school lockdown.
Police have charged James Henry Quakenbush, 19, of West Haven, with carrying a dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon on school grounds and breach of peace.
Officers started investigating when a resident called 911 around 2:35 p.m. on Monday to report a man with what appeared to be a rifle behind Bennett Rink, next to West Haven High School.
The school was immediately placed on lockdown and police rushed to the scene and found Quakenbush in a path to Painter Park, police said. He was carrying a fake AR-15 pellet or BB gun and was taken into custody.
He is being held on bond, police said on Tuesday morning.
