Man Threatened to Shoot Striking Stop & Shop Workers in Wethersfield: Police

Someone threatened to shoot Stop & Shop workers at the Wethersfield supermarket who are on strike and police are looking into who made the threat. 

The store manager of the Stop & Shop at1380 Berlin Turnpike called police shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday and said a man called the store and asked if the employees were still picketing in front of the store. 

After the manager said the employees were still in front of the store, the caller said he was going to the store to shoot them with an AK-47, police said. 

All of the picketing employees who were outside were immediately brought into the store to keep them safe and the store was closed to the public, police said. 

Several Wethersfield Police Officers responded to the store immediately and police said no one was injured. 

Stop & Shop said in a statement that they are aware of the included and “closed the store out of an abundance of caution” for our customers and employees and they are co-operating with local police. 

The store opened on Friday. 

Detectives from the Wethersfield Police Department are investigating the threat and ask anyone who has information to call the Wethersfield Police Department at (860) 721-2901.
