Man v. Food, Connecticut Style

Adam Richman brought his stomach to Connecticut to attempt the biggest food challenges and tackled our hotdogs and hamburgers before taking one mega pizza challenge.

Last week's episode of Man V. Food was all about Connecticut, humongous hot dogs, steamed cheeseburgers and that challenge - 10 pounds of super-stuffed pizza.

He visited Woody’s, in Hartford, and tried loaded hotdogs, including the Deputy Dog, a foot-long hotdog topped with pulled pork, melted cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce, according to the show’s Web site.

He drew a huge crowd in October when he visited Doogie’s in Newington, home of the 2-foot hotdog challenge and the 4-pound burger challenge. He took on the hotdog, but not the challenge, and ate the “Works Dog.”  The record, we’ve been told, is 10 feet.

He also visited Ted’s, home of the famous steamed burgers, in Meriden. How could he not? It’s been around for 50 years and makes one tasty steamed burger.

He also took on the pizza challenge at Randy’s Wooster St. Pizza Shop in Manchester.

The show is always hush-hush about Richman’s culinary feats, so we had to wait for the show to know if Richman conquered the 10-pound stuffed pizza challenge or if Randy’s served up more than Man V. Food could handle.

For the record, the pizza includes 4 pounds of pizza dough packed with meat, cheese and veggies. If two people can down it in less than an hour, their name goes on the Wall of Fame. He asks a little boy to help him but then opted for a veteran to help him out.

SPOILER ALERT: In case you missed it and want to know, here's the spoiler alert. Richman and his partner took the last bite with a mere second to spare.

Richman is one of several famous foodies to visit Connecticut recently and he really made us crave some good-old comfort food.
