Maya Who?

In case anyone in the United States did not know who Maya Moore was yesterday, that changed last night.

The senior all-American from Georgia made a career-high 41 points last night in the game against Florida State, helping UConn secure its 89th win in a row and a spot in sports history. The team has not lost since 2008 and Moore’s been there the entire time.

On Wednesday morning, she was one of the hot searches on Google, ranking 15 out of the top 20. By afternoon, her Google fame faded, but her Twitter fame was soaring. And men across the country are crushing on her, asking if she has a boyfriend and tweeting that they want to marry her.

Then there are the tweets where strangers are calling her the greatest women’s basketball player in history. She's even been called the female Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan.

These are just validation for what the sports world has known for awhile.

In 2007, Moore earned a mention as a three-time Associated Press First Team All-America pick. She became only the second freshman all-time to be honored as an AP First Team pick in 2007-08 and she was the first freshman to be named Big East player of the year as a freshman, according to her UConn bio.
