World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon is apparently ready to step into the political ring against Sen. Chris Dodd, the political newspaper The Hill reports.
The paper, citing an anonymous GOP source, says McMahon is finalizing plans.
“A decision is imminent, and she will likely make a decision over the next couple of days,” the Republican strategist told The Hill. “It will be made sooner rather than later.”
Another source told the paper that McMahon is "99 percent" in, and that the announcement could come as early as Wednesday.
Here's a little low-down on the queen of wrestling:
She's the wife of Vince McMahon, chairman of the WWE, a company that's based in Stamford. Gov. M. Jodi Rell appointed her to the State Board of Education last year and she has also served on the Board of Trustees for Sacred Heart University in Fairfield since 2004.
Another source told The Hill that McMahon has brought on former National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Ed Patru to help with communications.
“She plays to win, so if she gets in, she’s in all the way. She has the capacity to bring considerable resources to the race, and she has an established record,” Patru told The Hill.
There are already three Republicans vying for a shot at Dodd: Former 2nd District Congressman Rob Simmons, former Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley and State Senator Sam Caligiuri.
