A lot of Metro-North riders had a rough trip to work on Friday morning.
At 6:30 a.m., the U.S. Coast Guard opened the drawbridge in South Norwalk and ice jammed the locking mechanism, which meant Metro-North could not safely operate trains between Stamford and New Haven, Metro-North officials said in a news release. It took an hour to restore train service.
Then, the mixture of sub-freezing temperatures and snow and ice dropping from underneath trains affected track switches.
As if that did not cause enough problems, six trains became disabled because of weather-related problems at various points along the right-of-way, according to Metro-North.
"These incidents during the height of the AM Peak combined to We regret any inconvenience you may have experienced and appreciate your patience," Metro-North said.
All morning long, people tweeted about the delays and concerns about being late for work.
Some tweeted as they were stuck on trains that were not moving anywhere.
