An 8-month old baby will likely never walk or talk after suffering severe head trauma in September and her mother is charged with assault and prohibited from seeing her.

Savannah Shepard, 23, of Bristol is being held on $500,000 bond, charged with assault after her infant daughter suffered head trauma.

Shepard, who works part-time as an EMT for Wethersfield, called 911 at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 3 because her eight-week-old daughter not breathing, police said.

The baby was taken to Bristol Hospital and then transported by Lifestar helicopter to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford to be treated for severe head trauma.

Bristol police investigated and charged Shepard on March 9 with assault in the first degree and risk of injury to a minor.

She appeared in court on Thursday and a protective order has been issued, barring her from seeing the baby.

Shepard is married and has no criminal record, officials said. She is due back in court on March 17.
