Mom Charged With Abusing 5-Month-Old

Baby had a fractured skull and broken ribs.

A 22-year-old Norwalk mom has been charged with abusing her 5-month-old daughter and police told a local newspaper this is one of the worst cases they have ever seen.

The little girl was brought to the Norwalk Hospital Emergency Room on Sunday with a fractured skull, a fractured arm, seven fractured ribs and multiple bruises throughout her body, according to Norwalk police.

The injuries did not appear to be accidental to medical staff and they called Norwalk police, according to a news release.

The Youth Bureau went to the ER and began investigating. The Department of Children and Families was notified and investigators who responded to the scene  issued an immediate 96-hour hold on the child.

"This is a pretty sad case," Youth Bureau Lt. Ashley Gonzalez told the Stamford Advocate. "It's one of the worst I have seen in my 23 years of service. ... It is incomprehensible that a child of that age could be subject to this type of treatment."

The Advocate reports that Lane was living with her boyfriend and her parents.

Police obtained an arrest warrant charging Jamie E Lane with first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor and she was taken into custody at her home on Thursday.

The newspaper obtained the affidavit, which says Lane told them that she reacted physically after fights with her parents and being overwhelmed by the stress of caring for a baby. Bond was set at $75,000. Police told the Advocate there could be an additional arrest in the case.
