Power Restored to Most Customers After Heavy Snow

Thousands of people were without power as snow fell across the state on Monday morning.

At the height of the storm, Eversource reported more than 10,000 outages and United Illuminating reported more than 5,000.

As of 3 p.m., that number had come down to just over 1,000 between the two power companies.

Numerous roads were also closed due to downed wires statewide.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation said Route 1 was closed at Pilots Point Road in Westbrook and Route 63 between Route 7 and Route 126 in Canaan was closed. Both have since reopened.

Downed wires also closed West Street between Peterson and Ogden View in Vernon, according to Vernon Police, but the road has since reopened.

If you see a downed power line, call 911.
