Bicyclist Seriously Hurt in East Granby Crash

A bicyclist was seriously hurt in a crash on Route 20 in East Granby Thursday.

Police said the bicyclist was riding on the Heritage Bike Trail and crossing Route 20 in the crosswalk when she was hit by a motorcycle around 11:45 a.m.

The biker was seriously hurt and taken to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.

The motorcyclist and a passenger were taken to Hartford Hospital with minor injuries.

One driver who lives in the area said he wasn't surprised a crash happened in the area.

"People take their bikes and walk across or walk across every day and I’ve seen accidents for the last two years of people suddenly stopping and another car hitting them in the back, and I always pray that somebody’s not gonna get hurt one of these days because it’s easy to do especially if somebody’s not from around here," said Bill Utz of Granby.

There is signage at the intersection warning drivers to look out for people crossing on the trial.

The crash remains under investigation.

Route 20 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
