Mourners filled Chapel Street in New Haven Friday night to remember a father of two who was gunned down in his car.
New Haven Police say Antoine Heath, 29, of West Haven was shot in the chest on Chapel Street Thursday night. As police continue searching for who pulled the trigger, those who knew Heath gathered to honor his memory.
“We didn’t just lose anybody we lost like the glue to our family,” Dashonda Heath, the victim’s cousin said.
More than two dozen candles lined the same part of Chapel Street where the gunfire was reported Thursday night. Police say it appears the shooting was targeted, but they have yet to make an arrest.
“I hope they catch who did it they need to know what they took from us,” Heath said. “They took a good person from a family who needed him. We need him and they took that from us.”
The family has set up a donation page to cover the cost of his funeral and help take care of the two children he leaves behind.
Witnesses told police that someone with shoulder-length braids or dread-locks was seen running from the scene. Police are working on a more specific description as they continue to search for the suspect who they say is considered armed and dangerous.
