New Britain Man Leads Officers on 8 Mile Chase: Police

Police have arrested a man from New Britain after they say he led them on a chase for more than eight miles on Friday night.

Suffield Police say they received a 911 call saying that a white BMW was traveling at a high rate of speed going southbound on Route 159 around 10:47 p.m. It was reported that the vehicle had caused a crash and hit four other cars, police said.

Suffield Police called Troop H Dispatch shortly before 11:00 p.m. to notify them of their involvement in an active motor vehicle pursuit of the BMW that had fled the crash.

The officers provided a description of the fleeing vehicle as a white BMW with a partial license plate of AM.

Officers in Suffield told State Police that the BMW was last seen entering I-91 south from the town of Enfield.

Police later found the vehicle as it was leaving the limited access highway via the exit 38 A and B off ramps in Windsor. Members of Connecticut State Police stopped the vehicle at the exit 38B off ramp at Route 75.

The vehicle's operator, later identified as 20-year-old Edward Martinez, of New Britain, responded by engaging police in a pursuit for approximately 8.3 miles through the roads of Windsor and the eastbound lanes of the Route 20 connector, police said. Martinez ended the pursuit along the northbound side of I-91 in Windsor.

Officers were able to positively identify Martinez and all of his passengers. The vehicle was also positively identified as a 2006 white BMW with a Connecticut license plate of AM31037.

Martinez was arrested and was transported to Troop H Barracks around 11:30 p.m. He is facing charges including reckless driving, engaging police in a pursuit and reckless endangerment. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
