New Education Commissioner Approved

Stefan Pryor is Connecticut’s new commissioner of education.

The Board of Education voted on Wednesday to appoint Gov. Dannel Malloy’s nominee to the post.

Pryor, a Yale graduate, was a co-founder of New Haven’s Amistad Academy charter school. Most recently, the 39-year-old educator was deputy mayor of Newark, New Jersey.

He will replace Mark McQuillan, who resigned in January. Since then, George Coleman has served as acting Commissioner of Education and did not seek the post.
