When you mail your next bill or a birthday card, it could reach its destination thanks to a little image of New London Harbor Light.

The state’s oldest and tallest lighthouse is one of five in New England included in the U.S. Postal Service’s new collection of forever stamps.  

It goes on sale on Saturday.

The New London Maritime Society is celebrating with a public event at 10 a.m. on Saturday beneath the Custom House Maritime Museum tent at 150 Bank Street, New London during the annual SailFest Celebration.

There will be a special ceremony with music, talks, special guests.     

The New London Community Orchestra) Quartet will perform the Star-Spangled Banner and troubadour Tom Callinan will sing a new, original ballad about the light.

The New London Harbor Light stamp is a part of the Sentinels of the Coastline, Reminders of Romance, a series of stamps featuring lighthouses from throughout the country and artist Howard Koslow has worked since 1990 to create artwork with detailed accuracy.

  • Portsmouth Harbor, New Hampshire
  • Point Judith, Rhode Island
  • Boston Harbor, Massachusetts


All five are among the oldest in the U.S., and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
