Nine Arrested in Failed Riverfest Gang Plot

Hartford’s Riverfest could have gotten bloody, police said, had it not been for the East Hartford police preventing a possible gang retaliation.

East Hartford police told the Journal Inquirer that Hartford police warned them of a possible retaliation from a July 4 shooting in East Hartford that involved youths in the Bedroc gang.

Police said they seized a loaded handgun from a 17-year-old boy near hundreds of bystanders at the firework celebration.

They told the Inquirer that he pulled a gun when police confronted him and nine people were arrested on Sunday in connection with the failed plot.

The boy was arrested on gun, assault and other charges. Two 18-year-olds and several juveniles were also arrested.
