NJ Cops Protests AC, Will Come to Mohegan Sun

Lots of New Jersey cops will be at Mohegan Sun in March.

The police union has decided to hold its spring convention in Connecticut instead of Atlantic City in protest of the city laying off 60 police officers this year.

Last month, Atlantic City reinstated 17 of the officers after concessions were reached that require each of the city's 300 officers to forfeit $410 to compensate for a single month of salaries and benefits.

The New Jersey Policemen's Benevolent Association President Tony Wieners told The Press of Atlantic City this is the first time the PBA has held the convention outside New Jersey.

The convention will be held at the Mohegan Sun casino from March 7-11.

Wieners says members are registering "in record numbers" despite the distance from New Jersey to Connecticut.

The switch in venue comes at a time when Connecticut casinos have tries to lure the New York and New Jersey crowd.

Foxwoods invested in a deal with Madison Square Garden to advertising in the final five minutes of pro hockey and basketball games in the hopes of reaching millions of New York sports fans, commuters and people passing through midtown Manhattan.

In 2009, the local casinos took a comical hit at Atlantic City through billboards on major roads from New York to New Jersey, saying Connecticut’s casinos are better than the “Boredwalk” and the “Jersey Snore.”
