Battle Plan: Site Still in Limbo

The saga continues in Middletown over a new Army training center.

Army officials said they need more time to conduct additional environmental studies before deciding where in Middletown to build the center.

The proposed center would house a vehicle maintenance shop, a storage facility, administrative offices and classrooms for citizen soldiers.

The Army Corps of Engineers is choosing between four sites: Bysiewicz Industrial Park, Cucia Park, Mile Lane and Boardman Lane.

The Boardman Lane location has drawn criticism from community members who said they have environmental concerns. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said he's surprised and disappointed to see the Army still considering that particular site.

Army Corps district commander Colonel Keith Landry said no decision on a specific site will be made until the final environmental studies are completed and that could be until at least late March.
