To start making up for the large number of school days already missed this year, New Haven Public Schools will be in session next week during what was supposed to be February break.

All public schools will be closed for the remainder of this week as well as Monday, February 18. School will resume on Tuesday, February 19 and continue for the rest of that week.
By law, the school district is required to complete a 180-day school year by June 30th. So far this year, the district has cancelled 10 school days. There are two snow days built into the school calendar, leaving the district to make up eight days.
Four of those days will be made up during the scheduled February break, while the others will be made up later in the year.
Superintendent of schools Dr. Reginald Mayo said that he did not want students out of school for too long and that now it was time to get back to work.
“We don’t want our students out of school for too long. We canceled school for a week out of concern for the safety of our students and a need to keep people off the roads during intense snow removal operations. Now it is time for them to get back in the classroom and back to the business of learning. We thank parents for their patience in the wake of this extraordinary snow storm,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Reginald Mayo.
