No Jail Time for Teacher Charged With Risk of Injury

The charges involved autistic students.

A former New Britain special education teacher charged with abusing her autistic students pleaded no contest and will serve no jail time.

Michelle Campbell was sentenced on Tuesday to three years suspended, the Hartford Courant reports. She was charged with risk of injury.

Campbell, a former Chamberlain School teacher, was accused of "disciplining" a child in her special education class for spitting by holding him over a sink and throwing water in his face, according to the arrest warrant.

Witnesses told police the tenured elementary school teacher was seen slapping a student and slamming another to the ground.

Police said the three victims were autistic boys, aged 5 to 7.
