An arsonist is believed to be behind a fire at a building owned by Reliance House, Inc.

Just before 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Norwich fire and police departments were called out to 124 Laurel Hill Ave. and firefighters found flames coming from the back of the building.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished, but caused major damage to the building that is used for day activity programs.

No injuries were reported.

Two Reliance House staff members were in the building at the time of the fire and safely made it out.

The Norwich fire marshal's office ruled the fire incendiary.
