Woman Accused of Hitting Wethersfield Officer Charged With Probation Violation

An Enfield woman who is accused of crashing into a Wethersfield police cruiser early Thursday morning has been arrested after police learned that there was a warrant for her arrest.

Wethersfield police said the circumstances that led to the crash at Prospect Street and Griswold Road just before 3 a.m. are under investigation.

They said the incident started in Newington when an officer spotted a woman in Honda with front-end damage parked behind the White Swan Motel. The woman drove away from the officer who followed her on Prospect Street into Wethersfield, according to Wethersfield police.

Newington police dispatchers were in contact with Wethersfield police dispatchers and they were trying to coordinate a plan to stop the Honda when the driver approached Griswold Road and drove into the Wethersfield Police cruiser, according to police.

“The suspect vehicle T-boned one of our officers,” Lt. Andrew Power, of Wethersfield Police, said.

The Wethersfield officer suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. He has been released.

The other driver, identified as 28-year-old Chelsea Quail, of Enfield, was not hurt but was transported to the hospital to be evaluated. She was taken into custody after hospital medical staff released her.

Quail was charged with violation of probation and transported to court in New Britain.

Police said she has not been charged in connection with the crash, which is still under investigation

The Mid-State Accident Reconstruction Team was called to investigate this accident. Their investigation is active and ongoing.

Wethersfield police are asking anyone with information to call police.
