Woman in Critical Condition After Domestic Dispute in Cheshire

Prosecutors say the victim is on life support, and her children may have witnessed the attack.

A man accused of stabbing a woman as many as 30 times in a brutal domestic attack faced a judge today.

Prosecutors say the victim is on life support, and her children may have witnessed the attack.

Police said they received a 911 call at 8:38 p.m. Wedneday from a cell phone on Mountain Road, responded and found a woman in a pool of blood on the floor.  The victim is in critical condition at the hospital after suffering 20 to 30 stab wounds, according to police. Prosecutors said she is on life support.

Emanuel Dominguez-VillaGomez, 31, had cuts and collapsed on the floor, according to police. He was taken to a different hospital.

After being released he was taken into custody. Police said he was charged with assault in the first degree, risk of injury, reckless endangerment and unlawful restraint.

Outside the courtroom, the victim’s friends say they were concerned about her safety.

"I told her so many times, call the cops,” Heather Beichner, a friend from Wallingford, said.

Court papers say the victim's two children were inside the home at the time of the assault - an 11-year-old boy who called 911 and a girl who is almost 2 years old.

According to the court documents, when police arrived they saw several knives and there was a lot of blood. The documents go on to say that the woman had several cuts to her throat, but she was able to tell paramedics, “he tried to kill me and, “he say, I cheated on him,” referring to Villagomez.

Police said this is an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public. The Cheshire Police Detective Bureau and State Police Major Crime were called to assist with the investigation.

VillaGomez appeared at Meriden Superior Court Friday. His next court date is set for next week.
