One Year Later and Still No Answers

The family of Barbara Hamburg remembers her one year after her death.

It's been a year since Conway Beach Williams lost her sister Barbara Hamburg, and Hamburg's son and daughter lost the mother.

In honor of the Madison woman, her friends and family held a memorial service on Thursday night inside the First Congregational Church.

They lined the church steps with luminaries, put on purple ribbons to support the fight against domestic violence and shared memories of Barbara.

"There wasn't one person in there that had anything but beautiful love and wonderful fond things to say about Barbara, and it's just an honor and privilege to be her sister," said Williams.

Last March, Hamburg was found dead outside the house she was renting at 44 Middle Beach Road West. She had been beaten and stabbed.

That same morning, Hamburg was supposed to be in court for a post-divorce hearing.

Her ex-husband, Jeffrey Hamburg, showed up with his divorce attorney, but Barbara never arrived.

Early on in the investigation, police had been looking for Jeffrey Hamburg to question him, but never named him as a person of interest or a suspect in his wife's death.

There are still no arrests in the case, but Barbara's family is praying there will be soon.

"It's difficult at times. We all want answers right away. Patience is a hard thing for many of us, but we just believe in the system," said Williams.

Madison Police and State Police are still investigating Hamburg's death.

They're going over leads and looking at evidence, but say anyone with information should still give them a call. That little piece of information could help the case move forward.
