Overturned Oil Truck Causes Mess

An overturned oil truck created a mess but no major injuries in Montville Thursday morning.

The truck flipped on Route 32 around 9:30 a.m. when the driver hit another vehicle near Montville Commons, police said.

Crews spent hours cleaning up the mess but it could have been much worse, officials said.

An official with the Department of Environmental Protection's Emergency Response team said about 100 gallons of oil leaked onto the roadway but the spill was quickly contained, No storm drains or water sources were compromised.

The truck held about 1,500 gallons of fuel when it overturned on a downhill slope, so officials were grateful that work crews were able to plug the leak without further spillage.

The road was closed until after noon.
