Meriden Pedestrian Struck and Killed

A 42-year-old Meriden man was killed in the crash.

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car in Meriden around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Meriden police responded to the fork where the Berlin Turnpike turns into North Broad Street at 8:22 p.m. and found a 42-year-old Meriden man had been struck by a gray Volvo, police said.

The man had been attempting to cross the street when he was struck in the right lane on the northbound side, police said. He suffered what police called massive injuries, including to his head and neck.

Life-Star was originally called to the scene but was unable to fly.

The Meriden man was transported by ambulance to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about four hours later.

The driver of the Volvo was taken to St. Francis Hospital with facial, chest and hand injuries and is listed in stable condition. On Wednesday morning, police identified the driver as Kwame Osei-Tuti.

State Police closed Route 15 North at exit 68 and Interstate-691 West at exit 9 for at least two hours while local police gathered evidence.
