Oxford Teen Killed in Motorcycle Crash in Derby

NBC Connecticut

A 16-year-old from Oxford has died after a motorcycle crash in Derby Wednesday night.

The crash happened on Seymour Avenue.

Police said witness accounts, video surveillance and evidence revealed that the teen was operating the motorcycle in a reckless manner and was thrown from it after losing control.

They said he sustained significant injuries and was taken to Griffin Hospital, where he was immediately pronounced dead.

Police said the teen did not have a driver’s license and the motorcycle was stolen.

"At times like these, we need to hit the pause button and hug our loved ones. Tell them how much you love them and that you are here for each other no matter how difficult life gets," Superintendent Robert Miller said.

Miller said that while the teen didn't go to Oxford schools, the district has activated their emergency response team to support high school students who knew him.

"Our district staff is prepared to offer support to students and staff who need help at this time," Miller said.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to call the Derby Police Department at (203) 735-7811.
