Man Hits School Bus in West Haven While Fleeing from DEA: Police

A man wanted on federal drug charges crashed into a school bus carrying 13 children in West Haven on Thursday morning while trying to get away from DEA agents, according to police.

Police said DEA agents were in the area of Main and Martin streets this morning to conduct surveillance on Nathan Miniervini, 35, West Haven, who was wanted on a felony warrant for heroin distribution.

Around 11:40 a.m., Miniervini recognized the agents and fled, hitting a car that was parked, then the school bus.

The bus was carrying students from Washington Elementary School. Seven who were on the bus had very minor injuries and were released to their parents at the scene. The other six were moved onto another bus, officials said.

“We will be following up with the affected families to make sure the children are OK, as our students’ safety and well-being is of utmost priority,” Supt. of Schools Neil C. Cavallaro said in a statement.

Police said they plan to file charges. No photo of Miniervini was available.
