Man Struck and Killed by Train in Bridgeport

MTA police are investigating after a man identified as a trespasser was struck and killed by a Metro-North train near the Fairfield stop.

Police say the man was struck around 7:40 p.m. near Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, east of the Fairfield train station. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has not been identified at this time.

The train was headed in the eastbound direction and left Grand Central Terminal at 6:05 p.m. It was scheduled to arrive in New Haven at 8:05 p.m. The train was held at the scene and the 350 passengers aboard were transferred to another train and departing about two hours late.

The incident created delays of up to 40 minutes on the New Haven line, as of 10 p.m..

MTA police are attempting to identify the man and find out why he was trespassing on the tracks.
